The Centre for British Photography (registered charity number 1190955) was founded by James Hyman in 2020 and seeks to support photographers working in Britain through exhibitions, events, grants and mentoring. The charity provides a platform for a range of voices in order to present an expansive overview of the diversity of photography, past and present.

What’s the theme?
- Theme is open ended. We welcome a breadth of projects that address concepts, ideas and subject matter that may extend beyond Britain’s geographical borders.
What winners receive?
- An award of up to £2,500 per project (determined by proposal budget) which will be used by the applicant to complete the project within a year.
- Recipients of the Centre’s Realisation Grants will also have a total of three sessions of expert mentorship from the team and trustees of the Centre for British Photography.
Who can submit?
- Submission is not based on nationality; however, the applicant must be based in Britain.
How to Apply
What can be submitted?
- The proposal must be for a cohesive body of work. Submissions must be photographic or lens-based but can incorporate other art forms with the photographic medium.

- 5 to 10 files per project
- Allowed file types: JPG
- At least 1500px on the long edge
