One of the core functions of the NYSC is national integration. By deploying graduates to states outside their origin, the scheme encourages interaction and understanding among people from different cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. This helps to reduce stereotypes and prejudices, fostering national unity and cohesion.
Another key function is youth empowerment and skill acquisition. During the service year, corps members participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program. This initiative equips young graduates with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge to reduce unemployment and promote self-reliance.

The Director-General has approved the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream Il Orientation Course to hold in all the thirty-six (36) States and the FCT as follows:
- Commencement: Wednesday 22nd January, 2025
- Registration: Wednesday, 22nd to Friday, 24th January, 2025
- Cut – Off Date: Midnight Friday, 24th January, 2025
- Swearing-In: Friday, 24th January, 2025
- Closing: Tuesday, 11th February, 2025
Eligibility to Apply NYSC Batch C Stream 2 Orientation
The scheme plays a significant role in national development. By deploying graduates to schools, hospitals, and government offices, the NYSC addresses manpower shortages in critical sectors, particularly in rural and underserved areas. For example, corps members often serve as teachers, healthcare providers, and administrators in regions lacking adequate professionals.
- It is a mandatory one-year service for Nigerian graduates under the age of 30 who have completed their first-degree programs in recognized institutions.\
- A student must complete their undergraduate studies in a recognized institution, such as a university, polytechnic, or college of education, accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) or relevant regulatory bodies.
- The student must have been awarded a degree or Higher National Diploma (HND).
- Graduates of institutions in Nigeria must ensure their schools are accredited and listed by NYSC
- Nigerian students who studied abroad must obtain the equivalent of their qualifications and get clearance from the Federal Ministry of Education
- Students must be mobilized by their respective schools. Institutions compile lists of eligible graduates and send them to NYSC for verification.
- Graduates must present a valid academic certificate or a statement of result from their institution. For foreign graduates, the certificate must be verified by NYSC.
- Students must complete all clearance processes in their school, including financial and departmental clearance, to obtain their final academic documentation.
- Candidates must register on the NYSC online portal during the mobilization period. This involves providing personal details, academic qualifications, and uploading required documents
- Graduates are required to present a medical fitness certificate issued by an accredited hospital to confirm their physical and mental readiness for the program.
By fulfilling these requirements and following the outlined steps, a graduate becomes eligible for NYSC and can proceed to the orientation camp
