Open to tech startups at the pre-seed or seed stage with at least a Minimum Viable Product (MVP), as well as MSMEs that are already generating revenue, the competition attracts a diverse pool of high-potential businesses. Selected applicants will gain access to an intensive bootcamp designed to refine their business strategies, improve pitching skills, and prepare them for competitive presentations at the national level.

The competition follows a structured three-step process.

  • First, participating countries will host preliminary pitch events, where top-performing startups and MSMEs are selected as national winners. These lead-up activities help identify promising ventures and provide early exposure within local ecosystems.
  • In the second stage, GEC+Africa adjudicators will review winners from each participating country and select ten outstanding businesses. These finalists will earn the opportunity to travel to Cape Town, South Africa, where they will participate in the main GEC+Africa event. This stage offers unmatched networking opportunities, exposure to investors, and engagement with key stakeholders across the African innovation landscape.
  • The final stage is the grand pitch event held on the GEC+Africa stage. Here, the top finalists will present their businesses before a panel of experienced adjudicators, including investors, ecosystem builders, and industry experts from across the continent. From this competitive pool, the top three winners will be selected, gaining recognition and potential access to funding and strategic partnerships.
