The workshop, held on March 30, 2026, at The Electoral Institute (TEI), is designed to equip selected trainers with the knowledge and technical skills required to effectively train registration officials across the country.
Purpose of the Training Programme
The ToT initiative is a critical step in ensuring the success of the voter revalidation process. Participants include TEI master trainers and personnel from INEC’s Voter Registry and ICT departments. These individuals will, in turn, conduct cascade training for thousands of registration officials nationwide.
The revalidation exercise will be implemented in phases across:
- 774 Local Government Area offices
- 8,809 Registration Areas (RAs)
- 176,846 Polling Units (PUs)
Ensuring Credible Elections Through Accurate Voter Data
Speaking during the training, Kunle Ajayi, Chairman of the Board of TEI, emphasized that a credible voter register is the foundation of free and fair elections. He stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of the voter database ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He urged participants to remain focused, engaged, and committed, noting that the overall success of both the training programme and the revalidation exercise depends heavily on their performance.
Focus on Technical Competence and Readiness
In his remarks, the Acting Director-General of TEI highlighted that a proper understanding of the procedures, systems, and operational framework is essential for the smooth execution of the exercise.
Participants received hands-on training on relevant tools and digital systems, aimed at strengthening their confidence and enhancing their ability to train others effectively.
Key Takeaway
INEC’s proactive approach through this Training of Trainers programme underscores its commitment to delivering a transparent, credible, and efficient voter revalidation process ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
