Kaduna State Government set to employ 5,000 Youths and Women across the Local Area. Apply before deadline

Kaduna State has launched a major environmental and sanitation programme aimed at improving public health, strengthening urban cleanliness, and creating employment opportunities for thousands of residents.

The initiative, tagged Operation TSAFTA, was formally unveiled by Governor Uba Sani during a state-level event, marking a new phase in the government’s environmental management strategy.

At the launch, the governor announced that the programme would immediately provide jobs for 5,000 youths and women across the state, with plans to generate an additional 7,000 employment opportunities as the initiative expands in the coming months.

He disclosed that his administration has procured essential operational equipment, including Roro bins, dustbins, water tankers, and personal protective gear to ensure effective and safe sanitation operations.

Governor Sani explained that the first phase of Operation TSAFTA would focus on four local government areas facing severe environmental challenges caused by rapid urbanisation, increased commercial activities, and high population density. He noted that insights from the pilot phase would guide the gradual rollout of the programme to other local government areas across the state.

Describing the initiative as a practical and strategic response to environmental pressures linked to population growth and urban expansion, the governor said it reflects his administration’s commitment to purposeful and coordinated governance. He emphasised that environmental cleanliness is essential for public health, economic productivity, and social stability.

According to him, Operation TSAFTA is part of a broader governance framework aimed at integrating environmental responsibility into daily life in both urban and rural communities.

He commended the 23 local government councils, the Ministry for Local Government Affairs, and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources for their collaborative roles in implementing the programme.

Governor Sani also highlighted the programme’s social impact, noting that it creates meaningful opportunities for women and young people to engage in lawful and productive work while contributing to community wellbeing.

He said linking environmental management with livelihoods would foster a sense of ownership, responsible behaviour, and shared civic responsibility among citizens.

The governor further revealed that the initiative prioritises private sector participation through partnerships with professional service providers and cleaning firms to improve efficiency, accountability, and service quality in sanitation delivery. He added that such collaborations are crucial for building a resilient and sustainable environmental management system capable of adapting to future growth and changing conditions.

Operation TSAFTA, he concluded, will strengthen coordination across institutions, promote accountability, and establish a sustainable sanitation framework that supports long-term environmental health and community development across Kaduna State.
