Huawei Seeds for the Future Programme 2024 are now open, Seeds for the Future is Huawei’s global CSR flagship program. It is our most heavily invested CSR activity, and we will continue to invest in the program over the long term. Initiated by Huawei in 2008, the program seeks to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding of and interest in the telecommunications sector, and improve and encourage regional building and participation in the digital community.
Huawei Seeds for the Future Programme
Every year, Huawei invites students to discuss future trends and show them how they can harness new opportunities. The name of the program represents Huawei’s desire to nurture promising young professionals with the aim to reach all countries they operate in.
Up to the end of 2016, the program had been implemented in 96 countries and international organization worldwide, benefiting over 30,000 students from 280 universities; among them, more than 2,700 university students from have taken a study trip to the Huawei headquarters.
Objectives and Vision
The Seeds for the Future Programme typically spans two to four weeks and includes a mix of theoretical and practical components. The structure of the programme can be broadly divided into several key segments:
- Pre-Departure Preparation: Before embarking on their journey, selected students undergo a series of preparatory sessions. These sessions cover basic knowledge about Huawei, an overview of the ICT industry, and an introduction to the specific technologies they will encounter during the programme.
- Cultural Exchange: The programme begins with a cultural immersion phase, often in China, where Huawei’s headquarters is located. Participants visit historical and cultural sites, attend lectures on Chinese culture and language, and engage in activities that promote mutual understanding and cultural exchange.
- Technical Training: The core of the programme involves intensive technical training at Huawei’s facilities. Students attend lectures and workshops led by Huawei experts on a wide range of topics, including 5G, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. They also participate in hands-on labs and simulations to gain practical experience with Huawei’s technologies and solutions.
- Industry Insights: Participants are given the opportunity to visit Huawei’s research and development centers, as well as its global network operations centers. These visits provide insights into the company’s operations, innovation processes, and the future of the ICT industry.
- Group Projects and Presentations: To foster teamwork and problem-solving skills, students are divided into groups and assigned projects that address real-world ICT challenges. They present their solutions to a panel of experts at the end of the programme.
- Networking and Mentorship: Throughout the programme, students have the chance to interact with Huawei professionals, industry leaders, and fellow participants from other countries. These interactions provide valuable networking opportunities and mentorship that can aid in their future career paths.

Global Impact and Reach
On the 7th of November 2016 South Africa officially joined Huawei’s prestigious global training programme. In partnership with the Department of Telecommunication’s and Postal Services (DTPS), Huawei sent the first intake of 10 South African students to China for international training in Beijing and Shenzhen. The students received training in cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, LTE, and cloud computing, and got access to Huawei’s most advanced labs.
As of 2023, the programme has reached over 130 countries and regions, benefitting more than 12,000 students from around the world. This widespread reach underscores Huawei’s commitment to developing ICT talent and fostering global cooperation in the technology sector.

Seeds selection criteria
- Total number of participants: 15 students
- South Africa citizen
- All university students with ICT related major (Computer Science, Electronic Science, Information Technology, Software, Engineering, etc.)
- Average of 70% academic marks
- Have a strong interest in telecommunications and technologies
- Team player and dedicated to training tasks (including but not limited to training tests and completing a high quality essay)
- Interested in China and Chinese culture
- Gender balances
