These 14 scholarships support individuals who are dedicated to pursuing a career in this dynamic field but face financial challenges to pursuing their university studies. Scholarship applications are judged by seasoned professionals who identify potential photographic and journalistic talent.

- Recipients receive $2,000 applied to tuition, books and other educational expenses.
- First-time recipients receive additional photographic equipment.
- A NPPF official can assist with applications.
Who can submit?
- Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled for the spring semester of 2025 at a four-year college or university in the United States. International students in U.S. programs are eligible.
What can be submitted?
- Applicants can submit up to 24 visual files (still and video) that demonstrate their ability to report using photojournalism adhering to the National Press Photographers Assoication’s Code of Ethics

How to enter
Candidates applying for the NPPF Scholarships should ensure their application contains the following information:
- An NPPF-specific CV completed using the form at: https://nppf.org/nppf-scholarships-3/.
- Follow all rules listed on the NPPF website and then return here to Picter.
- Enter your name, date of birth, permanent address, personal email address, personal mobile phone number.
- A portfolio (called “project” on Picter) may include three types of visual message: Single Pictures, Picture Stories, and Videos. You may submit all three or just two or just one type, but judges would like to see at least one video from each applicant.
- The maximum number of image files is 24 (JPEG and MP4). The maximum number of photo stories is three (3). The maximum number of video files is four (4) and the maximum length is 10 minutes.
Examples:
A.) 24 singles (JPEGs)
B.) 20 singles (JPEGs) + 4 videos (MP4s)
C.) Three 8-image picture stories (JPEGs)
D.) 10 singles (JPEGs) + one 12-image picture story (JPEGs) + 2 videos (MP4s)
- Videos must be H.264 codex (.MP4).
- Digital images must be .jpg and 3,000px on the long side.
These IPTC fields are required:
- Author: Student photojournalist’s first and last names
Description:
- A caption according to AP Style
- Stories begin with a short summary in the first image description and then a caption for that image. Subsequent images must have captions.
- City: Where image was captured
- State: Where image was captured
- Creation Date: Verify that this field is correct.
- Copyright Notice: student photographer’s first and last names or other copyright holder (if applicable).
