FG Distributes Farm Inputs to 10,000+ Farmers in Kogi State to Boost Food Production
The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a major agricultural intervention programme with the distribution of farm inputs to more than 10,000 farmers in Kogi State. The initiative is part of a nationwide strategy to increase agricultural productivity, reduce food shortages, and strengthen national food security.
The distribution exercise was officially flagged off in Lokoja at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) office by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari.
According to the minister, the programme is designed to support farmers with essential tools and materials needed to improve crop production and expand cultivated farmland.

Farmers participating in the programme received critical agricultural inputs such as power tillers, herbicides, liquid fertilisers, knapsack sprayers, water pumps, and other modern farm equipment. The total value of the distributed items runs into several billions of naira, highlighting the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector.
By providing these inputs, the government aims to reduce production costs and enhance farmers’ efficiency and output.
The Kogi State Coordinator of FMAFS, Mrs. Subair A. S., described the intervention as a strong demonstration of the Federal Government’s dedication to grassroots agricultural development. She explained that the distribution process was carefully organised to ensure transparency and fairness, adding that only verified farmers registered under recognised cooperative societies were selected as beneficiaries.
Beyond Kogi State, the programme is also being extended to farmers in Abia, Anambra, Cross River, Imo, Kwara, Rivers, and Yobe states. Beneficiaries include members of commodity associations, cooperative societies, farmers with special needs, and internally displaced persons.
This inclusive approach is intended to ensure that vulnerable and active farmers across different regions benefit from the intervention.
Representing the minister at the event, the Deputy Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at FMAFS, Alhaji Abdulmalik Abdul-Ganiyu, noted that the initiative focuses on timely and accountable distribution of affordable agricultural inputs.
He added that the ministry has introduced short-term support strategies to address the rising cost of farm inputs and improve farmers’ access to essential equipment.
Stakeholders believe the programme will significantly increase agricultural output, improve farmers’ livelihoods, and contribute to Nigeria’s food security goals. The intervention is also expected to support the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the target of achieving zero hunger.
Farmers were advised to utilise the distributed inputs strictly for agricultural purposes to maximise productivity and ensure sustainable impact. With continued government support and effective monitoring, the initiative is poised to strengthen agricultural activities and enhance food production across Nigeria.
