The TWAS-CUI Fellowship Programme offers fully funded PhD opportunities in Pakistan for young scientists and researchers who wish to pursue postgraduate research in natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, and related fields.
This fellowship supports talented students from developing countries outside Pakistan and provides financial assistance, academic training, and international research exposure at COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI).

Scholarship Benefits

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the TWAS-CUI Postgraduate Fellowship Programme, applicants must:
- Be citizens of a developing country other than Pakistan
- Not hold permanent or temporary residency in Pakistan or any developed country
- Be under the age of 35 years by 31 December 2026
- Hold an MSc degree with research in natural sciences or related fields
- For social sciences, hold an MSc degree in an eligible social science discipline
- Have strong academic performance
- Be willing to register for a full-time PhD at CUI
Academic Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold a Master’s degree with thesis research
- Have at least 3.0/4.0 CGPA or 60% marks
- Have no “D” grades throughout their academic career
Candidates may also be required to:
- Pass the GRE Subject Test as required by Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission
OR - Take the Graduate Assessment Test (GAT Subject) managed by the National Testing Service (NTS) during the first semester at CUI
Language Requirement
The language of instruction is English.
Applicants whose previous education was not conducted in English must provide proof of English language proficiency.
Important Application Information
Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early for a preliminary Acceptance Letter from COMSATS University Islamabad.
Only acceptance letters issued within the same application year are valid.
Important Notes
- No sandwich PhD option is available for 2026
- Applicants must submit signed reference letters on official letterhead
- Applications without an Acceptance Letter from CUI will not be considered
Successful candidates can begin studies in:
- Autumn Semester: September 2026
OR - Spring Semester: February 2027
(Abbottabad campus Spring semester begins in March.)
